We are currently accepting nominations
for next year's Executive Board!
If you or someone you know
is looking for a way to make a difference
and willing to share your talents with our club, please contact Ericka Johanek at 369-9599.
Member at Large is still available... This person will attend
Services Meetings on base and not only bring our concerns to the table, but
bring back important information to us. Please contact Renee Warner 238-9329 or
Lisa McCaffrey 238-2809 if interested.
Attention to all LOSC members who
would like to help out our VA hospital veterans. There are easy ways you
can volunteer. First, you can simply bring various items with you
throughout the year to our LOSC functions. These items will then be
donated to the VA hospital. Second, you can donate your time and
talents.
Our LOSC VA Hospital Coordinator, Junko Pilch,
is the contact person if you are interested in volunteering at the VA hospital.
The VA Hospital has four different
units that make up the patient arena. Each houses different types of
patients as far as their needs and abilities. You need to be aware of
these when you sign up or volunteer for a specific unit. These units are
as follows: (1) A Nursing Home Care Unit with 120 beds, (2) A Spinal Cord
Injury Unit, 64 beds (Quadriplegic and Paraplegic patients that have no use of
limbs, who may need help with eating, etc), (3) A Domiciliary Unit, 294 Beds
(Drug and Substance Abuse patients), and (4) A Psychiatric Unit with 60
beds. Wherever you volunteer, someone will be in front of the building to
meet you. You can volunteer wherever you feel most comfortable serving.
Directions to the VA Hospital
Nursing Home Unit are as follows: Take I-64 East to the last exit before the
Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (Exit # 268 VA Center,
